Are there any home remedies to treat a cold sore ? Are there any secret tricks to get it to go away? And is there anything to make the pain go away, or to make it unnoticeable to other people?
First off, calm down. If you do have a cold sore, it's not serious and can be treated . You can buy Abreva over the counter in any drug store. Apply it to the sore. It will start to heal in a couple of days. Don't scratch it. Don't kiss anyone until it has fully healed.
Second, the virus that causes cold sores is called herpes simplex 1. This is NOT genital herpes...that is simplex 2. An estimated 95% of the population has been exposed to simplex 1 at some point in their lives. It is one of the most common viruses out there. It IS contagious...when you have a cold sore. For the most part, the virus lies dormant in your system but can flare up in times of stress.
If you have a cold sore (also called fever blisters), don't kiss anyone, don't drink from the same glass as anyone or use the same utensils...same straw...you get the idea. Usually, the first signs of getting one are a tingling in the lip area, followed by what looks like a pimple. Don't scratch at it or try to pop it. Just apply Abreva and it will heal...usually within a week. Yes, they are unsightly but they don't last forever.
Get some lysine from a health store or a major supermarket. Carmex makes them go away. Sun exposure causes mine. If I always use a sun block lip gloss before I go out in the sun, I don't have any fever blisters/cold sores. Aloe vera, grape seed, turmeric or you can try just about any steroid cream Tumeric is really good as an anti-inflammatory and for clearing up blemmishes
Oatmeal and baking soda mixed with warm water will help. You can also try just putting warm a compress on it. The warm compress will help increase the circulation and increase the healing process. Butter and alcohol on the lip, don't eat it! Growling deeply with warm water including slight salt will surely alleviate your problem. What ice it could be dangerous for, if my remedies do not seem good enough so you had better to take a doctor except asking someone else.
You can also go to the drugstore and get some abreva - it is a lip balm for treating cold sores, and takes a couple days to work, but it starts getting rid of the pain after a few applications. If you're really concerned about the cold sore go to your doctor and ask for some topical zovirax ointment (which is stronger than abreva) and that should take care of it really quickly.
Try using The Canker Spanker, it's a remedy for quickly healing cold sores that works. It's also preventative, I love it. Anyway, you can find it online.
